New 2016 Acura TLX

2016 Acura TLX Overview

  • Standard 4-cylinder with 8-speed automatic
  • Available V-6 with 9-speed automatic
  • Front- or all-wheel drive options
The 2016 Acura TLX is a midsize luxury sedan that seats 5 passengers. It is positioned between the compact ILX and flagship RLX, and it replaced the old TSX and TL in the lineup. It competes with the BMW 3 Series, Cadillac ATS, and Lexus ES 350.

The TLX hasn’t changed in appearance since its initial inception in 2015. It features Acura’s trademark “bird’s beak” styling on the front-end. The headlights and front grille converge to a sharp point down the middle of the front bumper. The side profile and rear of the TLX show off its lean line definition. Standard features include LED headlights, power/heated side mirrors with turn signal indicators, and a dual-pipe exhaust system. Front and rear underbody spoilers and LED front fog lights are also available.

Powering the TLX is a standard 206-hp, 2.4-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. A more powerful 290-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 mated to a 9-speed automatic and front- (FWD) or all-wheel drive (AWD) is also available. Fuel efficiency for the 4-cylinder model is an EPA-estimated 25/35 mpg city highway. The rating dips to 21/34 mpg for the V-6/FWD and 21/31 mpg for the V-6/AWD.

Inside, the TLX has a premium leatherette interior with a 60/40 split-folding rear seat. The center stack features a standard audio system that includes a color display, CD/MP3 playback, Bluetooth connectivity for phone and audio, Siri Eyes Free mode, a satellite radio, and a USB port. It can be upgraded to a larger color display, an integrated navigation system, an HD radio, an ELS premium audio system. Standard features include dual-zone automatic climate control, remote keyless entry, push-button start, a memory seat, and a power moonroof. Available features include leather upholstery, heated/ventilated front seats, and remote vehicle start.

The TLX earned a full 5-star overall crash test safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Standard safety features include a backup camera and a tire pressure monitoring system. Available features include adaptive cruise control, a blindspot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert, forward collision warning, emergency automatic braking, lane departure warning, and lane keep assist.
