New 2016 Honda Accord

2016 Honda Accord Overview

  • Updated for 2016 with new exterior styling and new technology
  • Offered in two body styles: sedan and coupe
  • IIHS Top Safety Pick+ Award recipient (models with front crash prevention)
Updated exterior styling and added technology in the cabin highlight the additions made to the 2016 Honda Accord, one of the best-selling midsize cars in the land.

The Accord is still the only midsize option that comes in both sedan/coupe body styles. Both get significant exterior updates that change their look and feel, including a new grille and new headlight clusters up front that house LED headlights on Touring models. Wheels range from 16- to 19-inches in size, up an inch from last year’s model which maxed out at 18-inch cogs.

Under the hood, both of last year’s powertrains carryover. The base engine is a 185-hp, 2.4-liter four-cylinder while those who want more power can opt for the larger 278-hp, 3.5-liter V-6. The base engine is mated to a six-speed manual or a CVT, while the V-6 features a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual that is only offered in coupe models. Since the engine and transmission options remain the same, fuel economy is virtually unchanged as well.

Inside, the Accord gets a large upgrade in the technology department, with a two screen setup on higher trim levels that adds a second 7-inch touchscreen to the standard 7.7-inch screen. The second (lower) screen is used to house media controls and is surrounded by capacitive buttons. Also new for 2016 is optional Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, which closely ties your smartphone (if it uses one of those operating systems) to the Accord’s infotainment systems and can even mirror the screen for some apps like maps for easier navigation.

The Accord is offered in LX, Sport (sedan only), EX, EX-L, and Touring trims. Standard features include Bluetooth connectivity, USB port, Pandora streaming, dual-zone automatic climate control, and power windows/locks. The aforementioned 7-inch display audio screen is optional, as are navigation, leather upholstery, HD radio, and heated front/rear seats.

The 2016 Accord performed well on crash tests, earning a Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS for models with forward collision prevention and a full five-star overall rating from the NHTSA. Standard safety features include a rearview camera, six airbags, antilock brakes, and electronic stability control. Also available are lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, automatic high-beams, and Honda’s LaneWatch system which uses a camera located on the passenger side mirror to show the Accord’s blindspot on the screen in the center console.
